HOT COATING / SAND
COATING
For some boards, this is the final step in the creation
of a perfect ride. The hot coat puts a smooth, thn,
hard layer over the fiberglass-dimpled laminating coat.
By comparison, wax-free laminating resin is slightly
gummy, even when dry. Hot Coating is applied after the
lamination. The process involves application of a second
coat of resin that is brushed on the fiberglass. This
resin contains a wax-based sanding agent, which rises
to the top as the resin dries. This process creates
an easy-to-sand surface.
After the board is hot coated, the fin system is added:
boxes or plugs for removable fins are sunk into the
bottom surface and set in place with fiberglass cloth
and resin.
The board is then machine and hand sanded for the perfect
non-glossy finish.
